Welcome to Spider-Verse comics reading guide!

The multiverse has always been an exciting part of sci-fi storytelling, showing us alternate versions of the characters we care about. But few heroes have explored their multiversal counterparts the way Spider-Man has. From the animated series’ “Spider-Wars” saga to the Shattered Dimensions video game, Dan Slott’s Spider-Verse comics, Marvel Studios’ No Way Home, and now Miles Morales’ Spider-Verse film trilogy, the Spider-Man franchise has weaved a complex web of variants and legacy characters that no other franchise can hope to match.

But with so much Spider-Verse content across the multiverse in comics and multimedia, where’s the best place to start? Read on below to find out!

Spider-Verse Comics Recommendations:

  • Spider-Men (2012) #1-5
  • Spider-Verse (2014)
  • Spider-Verse (2015) #1-5
  • Web Warriors (2016) #1-11
  • Spider-Geddon (2018)
  • Spider-Verse (2019) #1-6
  • Spider-Verse Unlimited Infinity Comic (2022) #1-51
  • The End of the Spider-Verse (2022)

The first Spider-Verse stories started outside of comics, with Spider-Man the Animated Series and the Shattered Dimensions video game both featuring team-ups of alternate versions of Spider-Man. Writer Dan Slott took inspiration from these two stories to create the 2014 comic event Spider-Verse, which has now become a monumental multimedia movement. So gathered below is the complete history of the Spider-Verse in comics, TV, movies, and video games, plus the major variants and villains from the Spider-Verse film trilogy. Enjoy reading!

Spider-Verse Comic Events

Before the first Spider-Verse event, the Spider-Verse had already been teased a few times in comics. While Stuart Moore introduced the Galactic Alliance of Spider-Men in a short story from 2007, the first Spider-Man multiverse crossover in comics was actually Brian Michael Bendis’ Spider-Men miniseries in 2012. Spider-Men showed the iconic first meeting of Earth-616’s Peter Parker meeting Earth-1610’s Miles Morales, with major consequences for Marvel’s Ultimate universe and the future of the Spider-Man concept.

Dan Slott took the Spider-Verse to its fullest potential a few years later with the seismic event Spider-Verse (2014), which introduced some of the most beloved Spider-Man variants we have today. Spider-Men and Spider-Verse were the main comic inspirations for the hit animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

The Spider-Verse saga continued loosely with Web Warriors (2016) and Spider-Verse (2015), a Secret Wars tie-in series. These series led into the next crossover events, Spider-Geddon in 2018 and The End of the Spider-Verse in 2022.
