More Familiar Faces Set to Return to ‘DC’s Legends’ 100th Episode

In the wake of Wentworth Miller’s announced return last week for the milestone 100th episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, six more former cast members were announced to return as well! In a first look, provided by Entertainment Weekly, former Legends that will be returning to the Waverider are Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Victor Garber as Dr. Martin Stein and one the brains of Firestorm, Franz Drameh as Jefferson Jackson (Jax), and the brawns of Firestorm, Falk Hentschel as Hawkman, Courtney Ford as Nora Darhk, and Brendon Routh as fan-favorite Ray Palmer/Atom.

That’s quite the list of former legends returning to the milestone episode, directed by current captain of the time ship Caity Lotz (Sara Lance), in an episode EW calls “Gideon-centric”. The premise of the episode is that Gideon, voiced by Amy Pemberton in the past six seasons, becomes a real flesh and bone individual and is overwhelmed, leading to a full-blown meltdown. In an attempt to set things right, Spooner (Lisseth Chavez) and Astra (Olivia Swann) must take a trip down memory lane. It seems that the two newest people to join the Wavrider will get a crash course of the history of the Legends, as they traverse many important points from the past six seasons. Though this time from Gideon’s perspective. Executive Producer and co-showrunner Keto Shimizu stated,

“We are exploring the memories of who we consider the O-est of the OGs, Gideon, who is the Legend before the Legends. As we explore these memories, we get to see familiar faces from all the different iterations of the Legends that she has experienced through her steadfast watch as the ship mother.”

Co-showrunner and EP Phil Klemmer added to the explanation for these memories and why they are important.

“What this episode explores is the key memories and why Gideon held onto them, and what she learned in each of these moments.”

As we visit these past heroes and their time as Legends, perhaps they reflect on what it means to be a human? This is something that Gideon may need to explore as she adjusted to life in a body.

Shimizu also explained how these heroes’ appearances are not just for fan service, but a way to reflect and celebrate the growth over the show’s seven seasons.

“It was a real chance to celebrate the evolution of the show. We really wanted to take viewers back to what it was and not despairingly. For a story that is thematically about growth and change and embracing the new, and what challenges turn you into — the blossoming — it was really imperative that we had those people come back to both live in the new tone of the show, but also to show like, ‘Hey this is what the show was and look how far it’s changed and evolved since then.'”

EW also provided two exclusive pictures of the cast, current and former, united once more on the Waverider! While the costumes don’t give away much, especially because they match those previously seen in past seasons, it was exciting to see them suited up once more!

There is no better way to celebrate the past, present, and future of a show than to bring back some old friends to join in the celebration. And while we may not see all of our favorites return to the screen, it will be amazing to have them back, even more, a moment. Will you be tuning in to the 100th episode to see some of your favorites? Let us know!

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow returns tonight at 8 pm. Look for the 100th episode on October 27th on The CW.
