What I Heard: Jonathan Majors in Loki Season 2 More Than You Might Expect

Marvel’s Phase 5 kicked off this past weekend with the premiere of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. With it, Jonathan Majors brought to life the role of the iconic Marvel Comics villain, Kang the Conqueror. Although he portrayed a new character in Quantumania, fans know the actor is no stranger to the MCU. Majors first appeared in Loki’s season one finale as one of Kang’s variants – He Who Remains. Following Majors’ portrayals in both of these projects, fans have been wondering when and where he might show up in the MCU in future projects, and how much we might see Jonathan Majors in Loki season 2. That is the subject of today’s article and exclusive.

[Warning: Spoilers for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania and Loki season 2 ahead!]

Details on Jonathan Majors in Loki season 2

It’s no surprise that Jonathan Majors will be in the upcoming season of Loki. After all, the post-credit scene for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania revealed that the next adventure of Loki and Mobius will bring them face to face with another Kang variant, Victor Timely. In the sequence, Timely was demonstrating a brand new device, possibly related to time travel, while explaining to an audience how they may be able to shape time.

Fans expecting Majors to have a role similar to his first outing in Loki are very much in for a pleasant surprise. We can report that according to several of our sources, Jonathan Majors will have a far more present role in Loki season 2, and is expected to appear in at least three episodes.

One source has also indicated that we should not rule out other Kang variants appearing for this new season, citing that Loki and Mobius will be traveling across different timestreams in search of these Kang variants to map out and see the extent of their control across time. This supports previous rumors coming from Daniel RPK’s Patreon, including that there would be multiple Kangs in the season.

This same source informs us that while it is unlikely we will see the main three Kang variants from the Council of Kangs in the mid-credits sequence of Quantumania. However, they will be mentioned and referenced during the season, as the interpretation of the Time Keepers story from the TVA is based on them.

What this sets up for Loki season 2 in terms of Kang and his variants

Now let’s analyze all of this information and see how this can fit into the upcoming season of Loki. For starters, we can certainly expect him to portray this new Victor Timely variant for the next season. It is very likely that based on the reactions of Loki and Mobius that this will be the first Kang variant they face on their time-traveling journey.

Based on the information we were told, if there is more than one Kang variant played by Jonathan Majors in Loki season 2, it will likely be a lesser-known variant similar to Timely. If they are searching for variants across time, a good variant that could be featured in the next season can be Mr. Gryphon.

There have been rumors for a while now that Mr. Gryphon has been rummaging around in the dark corners of the MCU during present times. Some have even pointed to Mr. Gryphon as the potential Benefactor, teased back in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp

Another connection is the Qeng Entreprises building in the 5th episode of the 1st season of Loki. This was seen in the void as a potential reference to Gryphon being the person who bought Stark Tower back in 2017 during Spider-Man: Homecoming. Lastly, this Kang variant appeared to make his appearance momentarily during the mid-credits sequence of Quantumania.

I am inclined to agree with this theory and believe that Mr. Gryphon is this mysterious benefactor, given his interest in Quantum technology before it became relevant in future phases of the MCU. It’s also a fantastic way to bring Loki to the present-time MCU and back to the 616 universe, just in time for future Avengers films if he’ll be time-traveling across timelines in search of Kang Variants.

Lastly, we can rule out the main three variants of Kang from the mid-credits sequence as they are unlikely to face Loki in this upcoming season. They’re possibly being reserved for future Avengers films and other projects down the line. The important thing to note is that the Council of Kangs is finally making its move and that, as it stands, the heroes of the MCU might be too little too late to stop what’s coming.
